The spiral is a symbol of renewal and growth.  We start from a point and travel outward, accumulating knowledge, love, relationships, passions, and wisdom.  This accumulation becomes a root system that holds together--a sort of centered grounded-ness, like tree roots to Earth.  But sometimes, the spiral gets stuck. We are made of our histories and our cultures (our family, work, social lives, hobbies, and friendships) and  some of us have grown up through difficult  and even abusive childhoods, tumultuous and possibly traumatic adolescences, and the challenges that greet us in adulthood.  Throughout our journeys we find that we often come back to the same themes and situations we've visited before.  Sometimes those patterns are the same old grief, the same terrifying anxiety, the same quiet and suffocating depression that we have been trapped in before... But, we can return to familiar spaces with new vibrancy, a different perspective, hope, and a different interaction.

Life is a spiral, and like tree roots to a tree, the spiral we have lived shapes who we are and the way we meet today.
